To serve those affected by physical disability by empowering them physically, emotionally, and spiritually with the intentional demonstration of the love of Jesus Christ. Every person is created by God in His image for His specific purpose. We are all designed to live the life God has planned for us to live, using the gifts He has blessed us with. Just like a fingerprint, every person leaves a unique mark on the world and the people they encounter. God has uniquely designed every person, each having specific skills and talents that can be used to glorify Him.

Designed to Live is driven by the conviction that everyone, regardless of ability or disability, is entitled to be introduced to Christ and the love He has for them!

What the Bible says about disability

Created in God’s image, by Him and for His purposes

Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.”  So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.”

Colossians 1:15-16
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”

Psalms 139:13-16
For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made.Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth.Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.”

Jeremiah 1:5
“I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Exodus 4:11-12
Yahweh said to him, “Who made the human mouth? Who makes him mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? Now go! I will help you speak and I will teach you what to say.”

God’s plan and purposes glorified in people with disabilities

John 9:1-3
As He was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth. His disciples questioned Him: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus answered. “This came about so that God’s works might be displayed in him.”

God desires His house be filled

Luke 14:15-23
When one of those who reclined at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “The one who will eat bread in the kingdom of God is blessed!” Then He told him: “A man was giving a large banquet and invited many. At the time of the banquet, he sent his slave to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’“But without exception they all began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m going to try them out. I ask you to excuse me.’ “And another said, ‘I just got married, and therefore I’m unable to come.’“So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’ ‘Master,’ the slave said, ‘what you ordered has been done, and there’s still room.’“Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.”

God wants people with disabilities to serve Him

1 Corinthians 12:12, 22-23
“But even more, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary. And those parts of the body that we think to be less honorable,we clothe these with greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have a better presentation.”

Ephisians 4:15-16
But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into Him who is the head—Christ. From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.”
