Project Access’ – Physical adaptations to the Vīlandes Baptist Church building (Riga) to create a more accessible environment for people with physical disabilities, limited mobility, and mothers with baby carts.

Project Phase Priorities:

  • Accessible toilet

    • Construction of space

    • Components that designate the space as accessible

    • Baby changing table

  • Inside ramping and handrails (From main hall to Balta Zale)

    • Ramp design based on preliminary sketch

    • Widen doorway to Balta Zale

  • Electronic stair lift and entrance modifications

    • Lift will be at interior stairs for access to Cafe and Fellowship Hall from back door entrance

    • Modifications to back door entrance are needed (threshold ramp, push button call, electronic opening door)

  • Additional minor modifications

    • Contrasting tape on steps / ramps (low vision)

    • Signage and pathway markings to back door entrance

    • Back door entrance modifications

Phases will be completed as funds become available, according to priority. Financing of this project will be provided in 3 ways:

  • A commitment of specified amount from Vīlandes church members

  • Oklahoma Baptist churches that wish to partner and be involved

  • Designed to Live – a ministry serving those affected by disability in Latvia directed by Katie Leatherwood
