Global Access Conference 2015

I had the great opportunity to attend the Global Access Conference in California focusing on Disability Ministry. This conference was put on by Joni and Friends, a ministry of Joni Eareckson Tada. The focus of the conference was to equip leaders with the practical knowledge and effective tools for disability, engage attendees in a supportive global network of disability ministry leaders, advocates, and academics, and encourage the body of Christ for ministry to and through people with disabilities.

In order to achieve these three objectives, Global Access will explore three central themes of disability ministry within the Christian community.

Christ: Understand the person and work of Christ in His historical setting, and consider the implications of Christ’s ministry as it applies to evangelize people affected by disability.

Church: Explore and identify the Christian church’s responsibilities in areas of disability ministry and leadership.

Community: Develop an understanding of the Christian church’s role as a leader for disability advocacy and empowerment in the wider cultural and social communities in which it operates.

By developing a common understanding of these themes, Global Access aims to create a more unified understanding of the goal of global disability ministry. (http://globalaccessconference.org/about/)

I was introduced to a deeper look at how the Bible responds to disability and how Christians should serve those affect with disability. It was so encouraging to hear from some incredible and inspiring people that have a disability but use it to fully reflect God's love and power to others. I was encouraged to see people from all over the world with abilities and disabilities worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ!!
